Located in Hampton, Georgia, Atlanta Motor Speedway opened in 1960. Despite an initial struggle to stay profitable, the track is now one of the top 10 tracks in NASCAR. The first race held at Atlanta Motor Speedway was the Dixie 200 won by driver Fireball Roberts in 1960. The 1.5 mile oval track was reconfigured to a quad oval in 1997 and resulted in Atlanta Motor Speedway having the fastest track in the United States boasting speeds of over 193 miles per hour. The Atlanta Motor Speedway is currently the host of the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500, the Hisense 250, and the Great Clips 200. In 1980 the track was featured in the hit movie Smoky and the Bandit II. Dale Earnhardt has seen the most success at Atlanta Motor Speedway with 9 wins and 26 top 5 finishes, but no one knows the track as well as Richard Petty who has completed a record 17,513 laps around.
