Michigan International Speedway
Get the lay of the land and see what Michigan International Speedway has to offer.
Lawrence H. LoPatin broke ground in the Irish Hills of Michigan on September 28, 1967 with the intent to build a speedway for auto racing. A year later the first race took place the 2 mile D shaped “Michigan Speedway” in front of 25,000 seats. The tracks wide corners and long straightaways have helped to make Michigan International Speedway the fastest track in NASCAR with qualifying speeds often in excess of 200 miles per hour. David Pearson has mastered the fast track leading all racers with 9 career wins, Mark Martin holds 31 top ten finishes in Michigan. Michigan International Speedway is now host of the Firekeepers Casino 400 and the Pure Michigan 400 on the NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series schedule, as well as other events like the Michigan High School Athletic Association Cross Country Finals and the Michigan Beer and Wine Festival.
