At a distance of only ¾ of a mile, Richmond Raceway is known as “America’s Premier Short Track”. The track opened in 1946 as Strawberry Hill Raceway at Virginia State Fairgrounds. Now a D-shaped oval, the track has hosted NASCAR races every year since 1953. On March 10th, 1964 the first race under the lights was run at Richmond Raceway, and today, Richmond hosts the NASCAR Cup and Xfinity Series under lights every September. Richard Petty holds the record for most victories at the track with 13, while also holding Richmond marks for top-5 and top-10 finishes in addition to starts, poles, laps completed, and laps led. Beginning in 2020, Richmond will host events for NASCAR’s Cup, Xfinity and Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series, as well as the NTT IndyCar Series.
